Re: anyone going to merle fest?
Thu, February 14, 2008 - 3:04 PMi made it to about six years in a row, but haven't gone in the last, six or so years. I used to love this one Alison, but it started to get real commercialized and the local law seemed to really take a disliking to the folks at the festival. However, i still have several friends that say different and still go, so it is in the back of my mind, just not something i plan on anymore
Have fun. and maybe this will be my return year.
DelFest in Cumberland, MD looks real good, in late may, check i out. i know you'll love the line up -

Re: anyone going to merle fest?
Fri, February 15, 2008 - 3:09 AMwell i hope this is the year you go back george! i haven't been in years myself (97 i think???) but it looks like a good lineup and several people have said the scene has changed, who knows if that's really true though. i quit going for similar reasons. the thing that stinks the most to me is the no taping policy, so we'll have to figure that one out. ;-)
delfest looks great! are you going to be making that one? -

Re: anyone going to merle fest?
Fri, February 15, 2008 - 1:24 PMMerlefest is so big these days, but thats what lots of folks enjoy.
Check out Suwannee Springfest at the end of this month down in Northern Florida. Great lineup, and a really nice venue. The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park is a great place.
What ever you do, do go out and support the muscians...
Peace... RD :-) -

Re: anyone going to merle fest?
Fri, February 15, 2008 - 2:45 PMi agree with the swannee venue as one of my all time favorite festival settings, but once again as with most festivals after a beutiful run, local
law can be bad. they were checking out tents a few years ago. don't get me wrong, if someone lights up down front, then you're running a risk, but chilling in the camp grounds and cops jumping out of the woods, please. that being said i also have tons of friends that love swannee, just a bit to far and i do work in fl during the spring one, but may head back for magfest in the fall.
as far as delfest, hell yah Alison, that is a smokin line up
and a maybe for merle fest, i might take april to go see several different bands on spring tour. a few nights here, a few nights there, and even a few nights at home.
I spend my winter in south fl working, so i am ready for some east coast touring in april, dedicated month for spring tours!! -

Re: anyone going to merle fest?
Tue, March 25, 2008 - 3:35 PMI'm trying to plan a trip down south this year (my first Merle fest) - hoping to get a travel trailer/camper (my home for the summer) and haul it down there with my veggie-oil-powered pickup truck....

Re: anyone going to merle fest?
Sun, March 30, 2008 - 6:21 AMhaving done the bluegrass circuits . i too love suwannee , for one reason , it is so large you can chose your camp spot. in the woods with a crew? out in the meadow for solar power --- me. or the hookup area for the folks that have to have their curling irons, coffe pots and hot showers.
merlefest -- love the mutiple stages. sewer plant camping is the best. again , with the variety of camp spots. on the level with hook up . or up on the hill in a tent. and the transportation to and from the venue is very good. just widh it was biofuel powered. and they practiced recycling.
. . last year i hit suwanne for two, up to ga. for two --piney woods lake hoofers, , sc for one, merlefest, then near galax for another .

Re: anyone going to merle fest?
Tue, April 15, 2008 - 4:48 PMi really wanna go to this but folks keep saying its too far to walk and expensive? -
-
Re: anyone going to merle fest?
Wed, April 16, 2008 - 6:27 AMexpensive is what ever you decide after seeing the price.
As far as too far to walk, I find everything fairly close, it's located on the campus of a school, and the stages are as close as any festival, if not closer.

Re: anyone going to merle fest?
Wed, April 16, 2008 - 7:49 AMexpensive ? hmmm i think it is one of the best deals in the country. you have 12 stages, 150 performers, going from 9 am till 2 am. variety from banjer hill stomps to alt-type stuff. plus can listen to americana stage on a radio, while at another stage.
best value there is , bar none.
walking??????/ every single campground has a shuttle. about every 15-20 minutes. run by the boyscouts, those guys have the patience of job....... round and round, they go all day.
go go go -
