Hi:

Team Obama has asked me to lead a discussion on Health Care.
I have chosen to do this online because a local physical meeting will be somewhat difficult for me.

Please consider joining and entering the discussion

Senator Daschle is invited to join and or observe at his leisure. Whether he will have an aid join is unknown but, he is the point person to whom I’ll make my report as this discussion makes progress.

There is a survey. Please complete it. Team Obama provided it and I’ll make sure that the completed surveys are available to Senator Daschle.

Please peruse the Participant Guide in the Tribe’s main page. It too was provided by Team Obama.

The web address is: http://tribes.tribe.net/health_care_team-obama#

Thanks, I look forward to your input.

Yes it is true. Negril Jamaica...Jan 24...Last year I went to see Peter Rowan, Vince Herman, Little Feat guitarist Fred and Paul play for the annual Chinese New Year Celebration in Negil . It was so much fun with just a few hundred guests at a Jamaican owned resort in Negril. About Ten years ago this started with a couple of guys from North Carolina and their close friends..mostly musicians.."lets go somewhere in the Carribean and play music for the holidays" Well the traditional Holiday season came with its own set of problems..higher fares, limited choices of hotels and plane tickets...so they looked at a calendar searching for a holiday..and they happened on the CHINESE NEW YEAR...perfect..it is in the winter, it has a significance we all relate to and off they went with a few friends..now they have grown into a few more friends, inviting well known musicians to participate and after seeing the country was very short on school supplies and budgets for arts were non-existent they turned it into a philanthropy project! So we pack up our banjos, guitars and mandolins and throw in some books and school supplies and throw down in Negril!!
This years line up includes the Little Feat Guitarists, Fred and Paul, Accoustic Syndicate, Larry Keel and Natural Bridge along with Snake Oil Medicine Show, Josh Phillips, Laura Reed and more......but aside from the concerts, the picking porch parties are over the top fun..the resort buliding have great porches and there is picking parties happening till the sun rises!! FUN FUn ...it is the best out of the country experience I have ever had...Everyone at the resort was so nice and I met great new friends...people I met were from 18-70, from Alaska and Minnesota, Oregon and NYC and all parts in between and only 275+/- people making so much more fun. I brought my musician son who joined in on the picking!! How can you beat that?? They pick you up at the airport and the party starts..
There website is www.chny.org and they just added a weekend party package for those who can't stay the entire week....Hope to see you there!!

He went straight to Appalachia after he graduated from college in 1974 and took locals by surprise, tooling through West Virginia coal mining towns on a bicycle, a mandolin on his back, looking for the ancestral home of bluegrass, long before multiculturalism reached the backwoods.

Spring Creek Bluegrass Band, whose members met in music school in Texas and moved to Colorado a little over a year ago, walked away with their second band championship in 2007.

The four-piece band won the Telluride contest back in June, and won their second over the weekend at the 35th annual Rocky Mountain Bluegrass Festival held in Lyons each July.

“I’m really thrilled to play in a great competition,” says Chris Elliot, who in addition to his bands’ win, also celebrated earning top honors in the banjo instrument contest.

“All the bands were wonderful. RockyGrass is the premier Colorado festival and I am truly excited to play here next year,” says Elliot.

Only once previously has a band won both of the Planet Bluegrass Band Competitions; Hit and Run Bluegrass won RockyGrass in 2002 and Telluride the following summer.

“Planet Bluegrass is thrilled to have a local Lyons band be the first to win both bluegrass band competitions in the same year,” says Steve Szymanski, Plant Bluegrass Vice President. “We can’t wait to have these fine musicians back at RockyGrass in 2008.”

The band has been working hard all summer to prepare for these competitions and the news is finally sinking in that the practice was well worth it.

“I’m still in shock!” says bassist Jessica Smith. “There were some great bands and I am honored that the judges thought enough of our performances to give us this title.”

Spring Creek Bluegrass will be performing all over the state of Colorado through the fall. Check http://www.myspace/springcreek or http://springcreekbluegrassband.com/ for all their upcoming dates.

Now in its 4th year, The River City Bluegrass Festival is a rare chance to see the ‘best of the best’ in acoustic and bluegrass music. Most of the artists are coming from the Nashville area. RiverCity is an interactive, move-around-and-make-friends music event. The festival, which is the largest winter bluegrass/acoustic music festival ever held in Portland, features two and a half days of non-stop music and workshops, including many of the top acts in acoustic music today (see below for performer information). The festival offers music on two stages, from traditional to progressive bluegrass, acoustic Americana , Texas swing, plus a little blues. Performers will hold workshops on banjo, mandolin, guitar, vocal harmony and stage presence. Workshops will begin at 10am on Saturday and Sunday. And, as at any good bluegrass festival worthy of its name, there will be plenty of jamming, both at the convention center and at the headquarters hotel.

Special Hotel Feature: The Red Lion Convention Center is hosting a late night jam on Saturday from 10pm to 6am in the Grand Ballroom. Food & Beverage will be available.

The fine folks at Lagunitas Brewing Company, who are donating all proceeds after costs to Ethos Music Center, will be back to provide the Beer part of the Beer & Wine Garden. Lagunitas will be offering their usual fine selection of fine brews. Nehalem Bay Winery will be selling wine beverages.

Our non-profit partner is Ethos Music Center. Ethos' award winning programs even the educational playing field by making the benefits of music education available to every student regardless of income. Ethos' programs are available on a sliding scale so that every child can participate. Free instrument rental is available for students on free or reduced lunch at school. Ethos' name is derived from the ancient Greek "Doctrine of Ethos" that held that music can change your thoughts, moods, and actions. In light of the numerous studies that demonstrate the tremendous benefits of music education, Ethos believes that every child should have the opportunity to make music. Ethos was established in 1998 in direct response to budget cuts that limited music education in public schools. Visit www.ethos-inc.org for more information about their programs.

The RiverCity Bluegrass Festival will be conducting school assemblies during early January to showcase the sound of bluegrass and other ‘roots’ music. Ethos also receives cash through the Festival’s partners.

Well, I know this isn't really about bluegrass but a lot of people who are into bluegrass dig old-timey music too, so...We are looking for a few good old time fiddlers to play at a very unique event to be held November 4th along the north coast near Santa Cruz. The event is going to be held on a farm that has a 2-acre hay bale maze. It will go until about 4am and will have hay rides and assorted fall/harvest themed events and going-ons. The event itself will not be too large and will be more of a private-party atmosphere. Our budget is somewhat limited but if your interested, get in touch.
Thanks,
Luke
